PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyzes data on conditions such as site location, drainage, or structure location for environmental reports or landscaping plans.  Integrates existing and proposed land features and structures into designs.

  • Assists in the preparation of landscape plans, site plans, hardscape details, construction drawings, site analysis, and presentation graphics.

  • Coordinates the preparation of project drawings, exhibits, and calculations with other engineers, designers and technicians.
  • Communicates with project team members, client representatives, review agencies and others as appropriate to the project.

FORMAL EDUCATION, LICENSES AND CERTIFICATONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited program.

  • 1-3 years of experience with preparation of hardscape and landscape plans for site plan approval and construction documents.
  • Working knowledge of landscape and native plants in the Midwest region.

Regional Project Manager – Detroit

Position Description
The Kitchen Community is seeking a Project Manager to manage, coordinate and supervise the construction of garden-based outdoor classrooms from schematic design through final construction in a timely and economical way.  Reporting to the Regional Director, the Project Manager oversees the organization, scheduling, and implementation of projects in Detroit.  S/he is responsible for coordinating and managing contractors, materials, equipment, inventory, budgets, schedules and contracts.  The Project Manager works as part of a dynamic regional team and maintains standards set by the organization nationally.  The Project Manager is an adaptive position with varied work including designing in CAD, meeting with school officials, and getting her/his hands dirty in the garden.
Primary Responsibilities
• Work with schools using site analysis during application process to determine and select ideal garden site and project scope.
• Coordinate with members of Regional team on application approval based on project scope and available funding.
• Develop project designs from schematic level through construction completion and associated documentation.
• Communicate with district facilities personnel, school principal, and a school’s facilities manager regarding site of garden, and project scope, requirements, timelines and deliverables.
• Plan and schedule project timelines.
• In conjunction with national team, plan and coordinate product deliveries to Regional warehouse.  Manage and maintain Regional product inventory.
• Maintain relationships with Regional contractors and inspect completed work to assure quality.
• Coordinate with members of Regional Program team to prepare for Kick-Off Days and to ensure the site is fully prepared for garden installation and support.
• Participate in and support Kick-Off Days with Program team
• Attend to maintenance requirements of built gardens as needed.
Required Qualifications
• 3-5 years of construction management and site design experience.
• BA/BS in related field such as landscape architecture, construction management, urban agriculture, environmental science or environmental design.
• Strong construction technical knowledge and experience in managing changes in the field.
• Understanding of local, city and state permitting requirements e.g., zoning, building permits, storm water, etc.)
• Proficient computing skills with Auto CAD, MS Office and GSuite
• Ability to manage several projects simultaneously and multi-task under pressure with short deadlines.
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups of people.
• Self-starter with minimal need for supervision.
• Flexible team player
• Valid driver’s license and reliable personal vehicle (mileage reimbursement provided).
Preferred Qualifications
• Interest in local food systems, urban agriculture and/or school gardens.
• Prior experience working in non-profit sector.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture or equivalent.
  • Varying levels of experience
  • Landscape Architectural registration preferred, or ability to gain in near future.

Ingham County Trails and Park Millage Program Coordinator

General Summary: Under the general direction of the Parks Director this position is the primary contact for the Ingham County Trails and Parks Millage Program and is responsible for the coordination and monitoring of grants for non-motorized trails for the duration of each project, including blue ways, green ways and special projects, which requires highly technical oversight, management, and tracking and compliance assurance for these programs. Will communicate and interface with the Park Director, Deputy Controller, Staff and other local governments to allocate and track grant dollars appropriately and in accordance with the current millage plan. Works with communities on helping with local match from various state, federal and private grant programs. This position will analyze and evaluate data, manage funding from budgeting and programming through project implementation and financial closeout and have the ability to prepare reports, charts, maps and other graphs to display data and have background in GIS mapping and data collection.

Mid-Level LA Designer I – Traverse City

Gosling Czubak Engineering Sciences, Inc., northwestern Michigan’s leading multi-disciplinary firm provides services in landscape architecture, planning, civil engineering, surveying, environmental, and geotechnical services.  GCES delivers quality community-based planning and design services to municipalities and development clients throughout Michigan, and is seeking to expand current staff to include a midlevel LA Designer I with a minimum of three years of professional practice experience in a LA, A&E or other similar organization.

Work would be with several licensed landscape architects and a variety of other staff. This full-time position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture (planning or architectural experience or degree a plus).  Candidates should have experience with landscape architectural design, planting design, and construction detailing document preparation.  On-site construction observation experience and/or project management experience a plus.  Licensure is not required. Public consulting experience preferred.  Candidates should be proficient with Microsoft Office and Autocad 3-D. Revit experience also a plus and will be considered. We also utilize Adobe Suite and Sketch-up platforms.
